T V Sundram Iyengar & Sons Ltd. (TVS), the parent company of the large TVS Group was started as a proprietory firm in 1911 as a Bus Transport business. The value of service, including proper provision for the availability of spare parts, was appreciated by the founder right from the beginning. The firm grew in size and activities after the first world war and commenced dealing in motor vehicles in the Twenties.

Sundaram Motors, a division of T V Sundram Iyengar & Sons Ltd (TVS), was incorporated in the year 1945 at Chennai. The company sold Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Buick, Cadillac, Vauxhall and Opel cars apart from Chevrolet and Bedford commercial vehicles initially. When General Motors wound up operations in India in 1954, Sundaram Motors took up dealership for Fiat and Plymouth cars and Fargo commercial Vehicles manufactured by Premier Automobiles Ltd, Mumbai (PAL) and established itself as one of their leading dealers. Later Sundaram Motors sold cars manufactured by Fiat in Tamilnadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
Sundaram Motors & Madras Auto Service Divisions, demerged on 4th Feb 2022 from TV Sundaram Iyengar and Sons Private Limited and vested with Trichur Sundaram Sanathanam & Family Pvt Ltd. (TSSFPL) based on NCLT order giving effect to the scheme of composite arrangement as per the Indian Companies Act.
